Due to be released in August and based on a true story, The Express is about the extraordinary life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. His fight for equality and respect changed the face of American sports forever, and his story continues to inspire.
Born in poverty in coal-mining country, Davis overcame social and economic obstacles to become one of the greatest running backs in college football history. Under the watch of legendary Syracuse coach Ben Schwartzwalder (played by Dennis Quaid), he became a hero who beat Jim Brown’s achievements and set records that stand to this day.
